Mounting Position
It is installed in the lower part of the engine cylinder block, above the oil pan, and supported by main bearings.
Connecting rods are assembled on its rod journals. The front end fits with vibration damper and gear train. The rear flange connects to the flywheel.
Functions
- Convert the reciprocating linear motion of pistons and connecting rods into rotary motion, and output torque to drive vehicles or equipment.
- Transmit power to the flywheel at the rear end; drive camshaft, oil pump and other engine accessories via the front gear.
- Deliver pressurized lubricating oil through internal oil galleries to lubricate main bearings and connecting rod bearings.
- Counterweights offset the inertia force generated by moving parts to reduce engine vibration.
