Installation Position
This crankshaft is installed inside the engine cylinder block, located at the lower section of the engine.
It is supported by main bearings fitted into the main bearing saddles of the cylinder block. Connecting rods link the crankshaft connecting rod journals to engine pistons. One end of the crankshaft extends outward to mount the crankshaft gear / vibration damper; the rear end connects to the engine flywheel.
Function
- Convert the reciprocating linear motion of pistons pushed by combustion gas into rotary motion, outputting torque to drive vehicle transmission or equipment.
- Drive auxiliary engine assemblies via the front gear train, including oil pump, water pump, fuel pump.
- Balance engine operation with built-in counterweights to reduce vibration during high-speed rotation.
- Internal oil galleries deliver lubricating oil to main bearings and connecting rod bearings to avoid metal friction and wear.
