2. Installation Position
This assembly is bolted on the top of the engine cylinder block. A cylinder head gasket is installed between the cylinder head and cylinder block for sealing. The valve cover is mounted on top of this cylinder head assembly. It is the upper main structure of the inline 8.9L Cummins diesel engine.
3. Functions
- Form the upper part of combustion chambers, seal the top of cylinders, cooperate with pistons and cylinder liners to complete diesel combustion.
- Accommodate intake & exhaust valves, valve springs and valve train components; control air intake and exhaust gas discharge.
- Integrate intake ports and exhaust ports to guide fresh air into cylinders and discharge burnt exhaust gas.
- Built-in coolant water jacket to carry away combustion heat and control engine operating temperature.
- Contain internal oil passages to supply lubricant for valve train moving parts.
- Install fuel injectors, pressure sensors and other related engine components.
